The Student Collections Assistant works closely with the Head of Collections on projects that support the care of the University Museums collections and its associated archives. This may include collections cataloging and handling, rehousing, inventory work, digitization projects, data entry, archival research and interpretation, and conducting collections-based research, among other administrative tasks related to collections management.
The student assistant gains valuable training and guidance on various aspects of collections management work in an academic museum. They also have the opportunity to work independently on projects in the physical and digital activities that support collections management practices.

My time as a Student Collections Assistant allows me to delve into the behind-the-scenes work of a museum, which has furthered my interest in the MUSE program and a future career in the museum field. I continue to learn more about Colgate and its museum history through my work with the collection and exhibition catalogs.
