(Note: The following is President Jeffrey Herbst’s prepared remarks to the Class of 2011.) On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Colgate University’s 2011 graduation ceremony as the university celebrates its 190th commencement.

(Note: These are prepared remarks by The Rev. Maria A. Scates for the baccalaureate service held Saturday, May 14, in Memorial Chapel. The reverend is CEO and founder of Johnson Park Center, Utica, N.Y.)

A flash mob video shot earlier this semester in Frank Dining Hall was unveiled today to help celebrate Colgate Day.

(Editor’s Note: Marilyn Hernandez-Stopp ’14 is blogging from China, where she is visiting as part of the university’s Benton Scholars Program.) My first few days in China have been phenomenal. After an exhausting 14-hour flight, we arrived at the Beijing airport at around 6:30 at night (though it felt like the morning for us!).

Maggie Dunne ’13 is known on Colgate’s campus for her devotion to philanthropy, from involvement with the COVE, to serving as philanthropy chair in her sorority, to operating her own nonprofit organization. Thanks to her staunch commitment to service and leadership, she’s been awarded the Newman Civic Fellow Award from Campus Compact.

Finals week is fast approaching, and I am ready for the last stretch of my freshman year. This week I have been inundated with work, turning in assignments, and enjoying the good weather that has finally made an appearance on campus.

Roads outside the Colgate campus were re-opened late this morning after flooding issues subsided.
