Each semester, we explore works of art in cinema through our Ryan Family Film Series. Join us as we review, analyze, and critique both challenging and engaging works of film.
Alternative Cinema expands the taste codes on Colgate's campus by introducing innovative and historically marginalized cinema from around the world and in every genre. The series is funded in part by the New York State Council for the Arts, and curated by members of the faculty.
Each year, this program invites a documentary filmmaker for a four-day residency of screenings and lectures. The visit provides a significant means of examining the complexities surrounding documentary film, including the conceptual, logistical, political, and aesthetic decisions involved — as well as contemporary theoretical concepts of the “global.”
