Director of Sustainability, John Pumilio, discusses his experience installing solar panels at his home in Madison County. Not only has the investment paid off in just five years, but also he has confidence in the fact he has no electricity bill and is producing no emissions when he turns the light on.

Colgate offers a wide variety of opportunities for first-year and transfer students to engage with sustainability. First-year, Callie Dahler has taken advantage of all Colgate sustainability has to offer.

For the past 11 years, Johanna Bossard has been a teacher and mentor at Hamilton Central School, empowering students to engage with nature and the environment through her agriculture education classes.

Open Farm Day is a beloved annual event in Madison County featuring local businesses and their farm-fresh products. This year, more than 20 local farms welcomed members of the community so they could learn about farm practices, peruse local goods, and enjoy the natural beauty of upstate New York. 

Each year, the Office of Sustainability honors individuals and groups on campus that have gone above and beyond to make an impact on Colgate’s campus sustainability efforts. Join us in congratulating our 2021 winners!

The Oak Awards strive to recognize individuals and groups on campus that have made an impact on Colgate’s campus sustainability. This year we had a great group of nominees that all model sustainability across campus and beyond. The winners are incredibly motivated individuals and constantly strive to support and encourage sustainability on campus. We look forward to recognizing them in an awards ceremony next academic year.
