Position Review Group

The Position Review Group (“PRG”) was established in 2009 to review all open non-faculty positions across the university as a response to the economic climate. The PRG has continued to review vacant and new position requests in order to continue to strategically align the largest portion of Colgate’s operating budget.

All positions that carry benefits must be submitted to the PRG for approval to fill. Requests to fill positions should have the approval of the appropriate Vice President/Dean prior to being submitted to the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.

Departments should strategically assess the needs of the department/division prior to submitting a request for a straight replacement for the exiting employee.   

All submissions for the PRG must include:

  • A PRG Approval Request Form that includes the justification of the need
  • An explanation of any changes in structure and the impact on the department and University
  • Job Description and Level
  •  

    Submissions will be reviewed by the PRG, which normally meets on a monthly basis.  Materials should be sent to Human Resources at least 10 days prior to the meeting for consideration.  Click here for the meeting schedule and deadlines for submitting material.  Please note that  requests for new positions for FY16 are due by November 14, 2014.      

    Significant changes (title, level, salary range, etc.) requested after PRG approval, will require an additional review, depending on the change, by the PRG or by the AVP for Human Resources, the appropriate VP/Dean, the VP for Finance and Administration and the President.   

    New position requests will normally be reviewed during the budget cycle beginning the fall prior to the new budget year. The PRG will review and prioritize requests based on strategic priorities and available funding during the spring semester.  Approved positions will begin July 1 or after.  Departments are encouraged to identify funds to help fund any new position requests.   Positions that are not filled for an entire budget cycle will not be budgeted for the following year and will require approval by the PRG in order to be reestablished.  

    Members of the PRG include the: President, Dean of Faculty/Provost, Vice President of Finance and Administration, an appointed faculty member and the Associate Vice President for Human Resources.
