Colgate University maintains a small, private cemetery at the top of the hill behind Chapel House. Due to limited space, a cemetery policy determines eligibility for cemetery burial. A single plot will be assigned to current or retired tenured members of the faculty, current or retired officers of the the university, former officers of the university with seven or more years of service, current or retired employees who have served 25 years at the university, and current or former members of the Board of Trustees.
A plot is restricted to an individual meeting these criteria and members of his/her immediate family.
Colgate does not sell cemetery plots, but requires a $500 donation that covers the future expense, maintenance, perpetual care and plantings. This donation is collected when the plot is reserved.
The interment fees are as follows:
Full burial interment: $450
Cremation interment: $150
To reserve a plot in the cemetery contact Maureen McKinnon, senior administrative assistant, in the division of finance and administration (mmckinnon@colgate.edu, 315-228-7422).
A map of the cemetery is available. Interested parties will need to select a full burial or cremation plot. A full burial plot is approximately 10 x 12 feet and can accommodate two full burials and two additional urns. The cremation plots are approximately 4 x 4 feet and can accommodate two urns.
