Office of Communications

Members of the communications team steward Colgate’s reputation and identity and help tell the Colgate story across all media platforms.
We curate and create content for the award-winning Colgate Scene magazine, for digital outlets that include a new mobile app, social media, and responsive-design website, for admission and advancement publications, and through media relations campaigns.

How Can We Help?

Staff members can provide strategic guidance on a range of campus issues including social media practices, marketing campaigns, graphic design projects, and any number of digital projects. We also work closely with journalists seeking information or a faculty expert.

Rachel joined Colgate on July 28, 2014, after having led numerous key initiatives at Ithaca College where she had served as associate vice president for marketing communications since 2010. A leader in her field, she is a regular presenter at national conferences including the American Marketing Association’s Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education.

Kathy is our go-to person for administrative support. She maintains the office budgets, manages meeting requests, and monitors the campus online calendar. She also serves as production assistant for the Colgate Scene, organizing class news and maintaining the mailing list.

Marketing and Public Relations

The marketing and PR team creates and shares the Colgate news that is most relevant to prospective families, alumni, and the wider public. The team also works with journalists and social media influencers to generate coverage of Colgate newsmakers, and successes.

For the past nine years Barbara has managed communications, including advertising, publicity, and messaging consistency across multiple platforms. She oversees the team responsible for marketing to key audiences: prospective students, families, alumni, the higher education community, and the media.

The Colgate Scene

The quarterly Colgate Scene helps our loyal alumni, parents, the campus community, and friends stay connected to each other, and to the university. We are dedicated to representing the university’s excellence, spotlighting the academic experience, and sharing the university’s contributions to the world. Aleta edits and writes for the Colgate Scene, including feature articles, profiles, and news stories. She also compiles the departments, and manages more than 70 volunteer alumni contributors to the Class News section.

Design and Photography Services

The creative services team plays a key role in creating official university materials, including the admission view book, fundraising materials, the Colgate calendar, the university catalogue, and more. They also provide support for the website and other digital media needs.

Andy is responsible for meeting all of Colgate’s photography needs, for uses in print and digital marketing, websites, and social media. He is the primary photographer on the majority of assignments and coordinates the services of additional photographers as needed.
