To be enterprising is to know how to turn your dreams and plans into viable options. Taking the initiative is one of the true distinctions of our students.

Broad Opportunities

Students have designed apps, established foundations, started businesses, and competed for research grants while still fully engaged in scholarly and athletic activities.

Among the many clubs and programs available to students are the Entrepreneurs Club, which supports its members in ventures and start-ups intended to enact positive change  within the Colgate community. Entrepreneur Weekend features outside speakers, and Real World brings alumni from many career fields back to campus to share career experiences.

A new and rapidly growing program called Thought Into Action (TIA) at Colgate University pairs successful alumni entrepreneurs with students to help the students start up their own business or not-for-profit organization. TIA is a year-long program where students turn their ideas into businesses, non-profits, and clubs.

TIA students get a chance at the life-changing experience of creating something that didn't exist before.

Liberal Arts Connection

More and more, students and faculty are finding the synergy between the liberal arts and an entrepreneurial spirit. President Jeffrey Herbst sees a strong connection: “Our students learn to think critically and understand disruption. Entrepreneurial programs can help prepare them for a lifetime of creativity in whatever fields they choose.”
