Usage Rules and Regulations for Colgate Fitness and Recreational Facilities
- All users must present currently valid Colgate ID or membership.
- Children under the age of 16 must be directly accompanied/supervised by an adult (18/over) at all times. Such minors must be an active participant with the accompanying adult during the entire activity period. No children under the age of 12 are permitted to use the Fitness Center.
- Access may be restricted at any time (sometimes without prior notice) due to Colgate-related needs. Usage during student peak demand times (2:00–6:00 p.m.) is particularly discouraged.
- The paid employees of the facility area have ultimate authority relative to the use of that facility. Disregard or disrespect will result in loss of user privileges.
- All users are asked to monitor their language so as to eliminate profanity, abusive or repulsive language which others may find offensive.
- Food and beverages are not permitted in the facilities.
- All facility users are required to have a parking sticker - this may be secured at Campus Safety (315-228-7333, 88 Hamilton Street).

- Clean, dry, closed-toed athletic shoes are required for admittance. During inclement weather a second pair of work‐out shoes must be carried in and worn.
- For sanitary reasons, clothing which covers the back, arm pits, shoulders and abdominal area is mandatory.
- All users are asked to wipe down aerobics equipment after use.
- After workout, all equipment used is to be returned to its proper storage location/position.
- Aerobic exercise equipment use is to be limited to 20 minutes whenever anyone is waiting.
- External music other than that provided by the facility is prohibited.
- Children under 12 not permitted in Fitness Center.

Swim Locker Rooms will be available; access pool from Trudy-Huntington link corridor through Swim Locker Rooms.
- Upon entry all users must present a currently valid Colgate ID or membership.
- All users must shower before entering pool.
- Swimming is not permitted unless a life guard is on duty.
- Children under the age of 16 must be directly accompanied/supervised by an adult (18/over) at all times. Such minors must be an active participant with the accompanying adult during the entire activity period.
- Gum, band aids and glass of any type are prohibited.
- Running on deck is prohibited.
- Floatation devices must be approved by a lifeguard.
- No swimming under bulkheads.
- Life guards have ultimate authority in pool area - disregard for or disrespect shown toward a lifeguard may result in expulsion from pool and jeopardize membership status.

- Light soled footwear must be worn to assure that marks are not left on playing surface.
- Roller blades, bicycles, skate boards etc. are not permitted inside the facility.

Bewkes Center is a lakefront property available for recreational use by Colgate Faculty/Staff and their families only. Hours are weather-dependent, and lifeguards must be present for use of the property. Colgate Faculty/Staff IDs are required.

The cottage by the pond provides restrooms, changing areas, and drinking water. The Bewkes Center is rich in wildlife and plants and we ask that you respect their habitat at all times.
When the swimming facility is open, lifeguards will be onsite, gate is open and the “Beach Open” sign will be clearly posted. The size of the swimming area limits our permit to 38 swimmers at a time. If this number is exceeded the lifeguards will be required to ask some people to leave the water. Absolutely no swimming is permitted when the lifeguards are not on duty or the “Beach Closed” sign is posted.
Please note: When the gate is locked, the beach is closed and no admittance is permitted. Violators will be could prosecuted for trespassing.
- Picnics: Picnic tables are provided. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. A distance of 10 feet is encouraged on the beach between blankets/chairs of anyone not within the same household/family unit.
- Large picnics, beach parties, and other gatherings are not allowed.
- Boating: No motorboats are permitted on Bewkes property. Boaters may use their own canoes, kayaks, or rowboats only; personal flotation devices must be worn at all times.
- Fishing: Catch-and-release fishing is permitted from the shore of the lake (away from the swimming area) when the beach is open. A valid NYS fishing license is required. No fishing when the beach is closed.

Open Hours
All visitors must request a 1-hour reservation time at least 48 hours in advance. Available watercraft include canoes, recreational kayaks, rowboats, pedal boats, Pico sailboats, and stand up paddle boards. Vessels are available for use on the lake only.

Policies and Practices
- All hours are weather dependent. You will be notified if your reservation is cancelled due to inclement weather.
- Colgate University ID is required in order to use the equipment. Students, faculty, and staff may bring guests, but at least one person in a group must have valid Colgate ID.
- The boathouse property is just for boating. No swimming, picnicking, or sunbathing is permitted at any time. This is especially important in support of social distancing requirements.
- A signed assumption of risk/release of liability statement will be required.
- Personal flotation devices are required at all times. Repeat offenders of this policy will no longer have access to the facility, and violators approached by the DEC may be fined.
- Pack out all trash.
All users of the cross country trails should do so at their own risk. The trail terrain varies throughout and trail conditions may change at any time given weather conditions and/or natural environmental changes to the area. All users should use the trails cautiously and at their own risk.

- Users must sign in using the sign-in sheet posted in the changing room.
- Facility may only be used during posted hours.
- Non‐varsity individuals are not permitted in facility during reserved team practice times.
- All users must carry in a second pair of activity shoes in order to gain admittance during inclement weather. Clean footwear must be changed into prior to entering activity area. Only rubber soled running and/or turf/court shoes are to be worn.
- Spikes or dark soled shoes that will leave a mark are not permitted.
- No pets allowed at any time in the facility.
Seven Oaks Golf Club at Colgate University, located in Hamilton, NY, is an 18-hole golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones.
The Seven Oaks Clubhouse is a locally owned and operated full-service restaurant and caterer. We are open to the public and open year round serving lunch and dinner. We are located at the corner of Payne St and E Lake Rd.
