Our environmental studies program is designed to enhance your awareness of the complexity of regional and global environmental issues and to underscore the consequences and impacts of the human experience on the environment. If you participate in the program, you will learn to think, speak, and write clearly and articulately about environmental issues from a variety of perspectives.
The program is interdisciplinary, and our passionate faculty are drawn from a number of departments. As a result, you get the benefit of instruction from a variety of disciplines and perspectives, as well as the ability to conduct research that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries.
The program administers five majors:
- Environmental biology
- Environmental economics
- Environmental geography
- Environmental geology
- Environmental studies
All five majors include a common core of courses that ensures an interdisciplinary experience. At the same time, you will achieve depth in analytical ability by taking a specified suite of courses, usually in a particular discipline, chosen in consultation with your adviser.
If you are considering any of the five majors we urge you to consult with a member of the advisory committee during your first year.
You may also pursue a minor in environmental studies.
