Associate Director of Career Development David Loveless presents at 2024 Sophomore Jumpstart
The fall semester at Career Services has been replete with events that bolster student success — and there is more to come.
Workshops, programs, and employer engagement are tailored to each class year in alignment with Colgate’s Four-Year Career Development Plan. Career Services jumpstarts are the first in this queue. First-Year Jumpstart provides an important Career Services overview and a warm welcome to new students. The office also presents jumpstarts for sophomores and juniors, and a kick-off event for senior year to prepare them for life beyond Colgate.
New this year, Colgate University and Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business have partnered to present the Colgate-Tuck January Business Bridge Program. And for students looking to boost their technical skills, Career Services continues to expand upon its popular Microcredentials Initiative.
As part of the Colgate Premier recruiting program, Career Services hosted employers virtually and on campus across industries. Those interested in banking could meet alumni working at Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley. JPMorgan’s Global Chairman, Noah Wintroub ’98, visited campus to meet students and share best practices to land summer banking internships.
“Being able to hear directly from Noah Wintroub was incredible because it was apparent how he wants to help every Colgate student succeed,” said Esha Bahal ’27. “I loved his explanation on the different departments of JPMorgan, it was an amazing insight into figuring out which sector is the best fit.”
Opportunities in creative fields were highlighted at the MUSE∙ing About Career Paths in Museums workshop and info sessions with Penguin Random House and the Smithsonian Institution.
To help prepare for careers in law, the office presented application workshops and info sessions with Columbia, Fordham, and Georgetown law schools. Students also received a more personal view of the field over dinner with Chris Kendall, Esq., a local lawyer.
For those exploring opportunities in medicine, the biannual Michael J. Wolk ’60 MD Conference on Medical Education offered chances to engage with panelists in numerous health care roles, including professionals at Northwell Health, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Career Services has a slate of offerings still to come this semester including two signature programs, Career Exploration Week and Alumni Career Conversations. Students are encouraged to explore events on Colgate Handshake and read the office’s What’s Going On email each Sunday.
