As a Vicki Jan Isler Peace Fellow, Akshara Ramaseshan worked with Mediators Beyond Borders International (MBBI), a not-for-profit organization focused on advocacy work and conflict resolution. Because MBBI holds consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), her responsibilities included research and analysis for a report that MBBI submits to the council every four years.
Akshara supported high-level political forums, crafted reports, and helped to pilot a new youth action group, the Peacebuilders of the Future Initiative. She also managed communications, including social media, replied to messages, and provided general support for working and regional groups.
She had the chance to learn more about volunteer-based organizations like MBBI, create targeted messaging, develop membership strategies, and gained valuable experience in the field of mediation through professional interactions. Akshara also had the opportunity to learn more about the United Nations and intends to continue volunteering with MBBI to develop the Peacebuilders of the Future Initiative and provide support for future UN events.
