Hamilton, NY — – The Colgate women’s hockey team earned its first ever division I sweep with a 6-2 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday.
Quinnipiac gained the early advantage at 2:35 of the first when Kristin Alcorn scored her third goal of the season off assists from Debbie Beaudoin and Candace Boyles.
Colgate would storm back at 8:55 when Allison Paiano netted her sixth goal of the season from Avery McGlenn and Caitlin Hornyack. The goal tied Paiano for the team lead with Cheryl Setchell.
The Raiders took the lead at 18:13 when Amanda Barre tallied a power play goal, her fifth of the season from Setchell to give Colgate a 2-1 advantage at the end of one period.
Colgate picked up the defense in the second period by killing off a five-minute major penalty to Barre, who was ejected from the game for a game-misconduct, butt-ending penalty. The Raiders also killed off a five-on-three advantage in the second period.
At 7:54, shortly after killing off the long power play chance, Colgate’s Allison Paiano scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season increasing the lead to 3-1.
Kristin Cirbus made it 4-1 at 15:57 of the second off a pass from freshman defender Micki King.
Quinnipiac scored a power play goal at 16:16 of the third when Jessica Schilling scored her first goal of the season from Katie O’Hara.
Colgate would add two empty net goals from Chelsey Rhodes and Becky Irvine to set the final at 6-2.
Quinnipiac outshot Colgate for the second straight game 31-26. Quinnipiac went 1-5 on the power play and the Raiders were successful on one of four opportunities.
Rebecca Lahar turned aside 29 shots for her fifth win of the season.
Colgate evens its record at 7-7, while the Bobcats drop to 3-10.
Colgate is next in action Saturday night at 7p.m. at Union.
