Students helped us trend on Twitter on Colgate Day
Today at approximately 13:13 p.m. EDT, #ColgateDay was a trending topic on Twitter. As a trending topic, it appeared on the Twitter screens of people across the nation and around the world. You can still see people talking about it here. Here is the screen shot:
Our plan was simple: we asked our passionate Colgate community to post “Happy #ColgateDay” at exactly 13:13 pm EDT. The question: Can a school our size trend on Twitter?
The answer was a resounding YES!
Thanks to the entire Colgate community for helping us make Colgate Day a trending phenomenon.For perspective, Twitter long ago passed the 200 million Tweets per day mark. In order to trend, we needed thousands of people to come together in an online event celebrating Friday the 13th. So when it happened, we all felt like we played a part. This feeling pride is what social media is all about: connecting people from the Colgate community to one another – regardless of where they are in the world.
Just so you know, this is a warm up. There’s another Colgate Day in July. On that Colgate Day, we plan to trend on Twitter for at least 13 minutes.
