As we get ready to kick off Colgate’s annual summer internship blog series, which will highlight students at work in a variety of fields around the globe, we’re featuring internship advice from a WalletHub interview with Teresa Olsen, assistant vice president of institutional advancement and director of career services.
WalletHub is a financial fitness website, and its editors contacted Olsen asking for tips on summer experiences for young people. They presented her responses alongside other expert comments.
In the article, Olsen discusses summer experiences that will best equip students for their careers as well as common mistakes young people make when they take a summer job or internship. She also emphasizes the unique assistance Colgate provides its students.
“Colgate has prioritized internship grants as one of our lead priorities for the past several years,” Olsen said. “Our grants are awarded through a competitive process to students pursuing unpaid and underpaid internships, research, or long-term community service opportunities.”
Olsen suggests that students start the internship search early; leverage their university, community, and personal resources, if possible; and sidestep avoidable errors. Read more of Olsen’s advice on Wallethub.
Olsen was the recipient of the 2016 Senior Class Award for significant contributions to the enrichment of the graduating class, in recognition of her outstanding dedication in preparing students for future careers.
