Students working with downtown merchants have prepared some sweet deals for those looking to enjoy this St. Valentine’s Day weekend.
The Late Gate and CAB Take Two groups have joined together to combine a screening of the new movie Valentine’s Day with special discounts offered at downtown restaurants.
The movie, which features many members of the Hollywood A-list and wanna-be list, is premiering nationwide Friday and will screen at midnight at the Hamilton Movie Theater.
Students who pair up with someone, a date or a friend or a roommate, will get coupons with the $3 admission price that they can use at the following locations:
The Barge Canal Coffee Co., Colgate Inn, La Iguana, Maxwells, Nichols & Beal, Oliveri’s Pizzeria, Parkside Deli, Rusch’s Bar and Grill, and 22 Utica Street Cafe.
Kate Byun ’12 and Mack Goldberg ’12 went door-to-door to gauge restaurant owners’ interest.
“Everyone was very happy to collaborate with us,” said Byun. “We hope it’s another way to get students downtown and into the restaurants.”
Byun is an intern with Late Gate, which offers weekend programming that provides non-alcoholic options on campus and in the Hamilton community after 10 p.m. She is working with Markie Cohen ’13, a CAB intern, on promoting the weekend events.
This Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Late Gate and We Funk are offering students the chance to strap on roller skates and take a few spins around Huntington Gym. Skates, music and food will be provided free. On Monday, CAB has scheduled a Winter Olympics Study Break in Donovan’s Pub that will include food and prizes.
