CAPE COD, Mass.’ Sophomore goaltender Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.) of the Colgate men’s hockey team was named the ECAC Goaltender of the Week Monday.
Silverthorn receives his first league honor after backstopping the Raiders to a 2-1 overtime win over fourth-ranked Cornell Thursday night at Starr Rink. He finished the game with a career-high 31 saves on 32 shots. After letting in an early goal at 1:48 of the first period, he kept the Big Red off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
In Saturday night’s 3-1 loss at Lynah Rink, Silverthorn finished with 26 saves and stopped 57 of 61 shots for a 93.4 save percentage in the series.
Thursday night’s game marked Silverthorn’s first start since January 4 at Clarkson and his first ECAC win since the 4-3 win over Princeton on November 8.
Colgate hosts Vermont on Friday, Feb. 7 and Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 8 in two key ECAC contests at Starr Rink. Both games start at 7 p.m.
