Hamilton, NY — The Colgate women’s hockey team used a third period goal from Amanda Barre and an excellent performance between the pipes from Rebecca Lahar to take down the Purple Eagles of Niagara and earn the weekend sweep.
Colgate took the early lead when Maura Keho scored her seventh goal of the season at 7:03 of the second period. Chery Setchell and freshman defender Alix Warren were credited with the assists on the power-play goal.
Colgate’s lead would be short lived as Niagara put one home just over a minute later when Candice Moxley score to tie the score.
The teams played the rest of period scoreless, setting the stage for Barre’s game-winner. The junior knocked a rebound home giving Colgate the lead and eventually the win. Linemates Allison Paiano and Becky Irvine recorded assist on Barre’s eighth tally of the season.
Lahar shut the door on Niagara and kept the score at 2-1, making 24 saves in the contest to earn her career-high 11th victory this season.
The Raiders finished 1-6 on the power-play, while Niagara finished 0-3.
Colgate is now 15-8-2 overall and 6-4 in the ECAC as they prepare to host the Crimson of Harvard Friday, February 6, in Starr Rink at 7 p.m.
