This past May, Mundy was invited to Madrid by the International Women’s Media Foundation to offer background on Western Sahara.
“Western Sahara is an under-reported region” said Mundy, “That is why the IWMF flew me to Madrid to offer background to journalists.” While there, some media outlets asked for a one on one, and the Washington Post asked for an interview. The resulting video accompanies a story by Loveday Morris, an IWMF Fellow.
The story is titled “In Western Sahara, women play large role in forgotten struggle for independence.” Mundy’s contribution was a comparison of women in Western Sahara to other countries:
“Compared to the status and role of women in the Islamic societies along the Mediterranean coast, Arabia . . . women in Western Sahara enjoy significant advantages.”
Mundy’s expertise was recently featured in a USA Today article on Northern Africa. You can read more about Mundy on his Colgate faculty page.
