Members of the local and campus communities are invited to join together to offer support for the people of Haiti who continue to grapple with the aftershocks and aftereffects of the massive Jan. 12 earthquake.
A benefit concert will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in Memorial Chapel.
Performers will include Joanne Shenandoah, a Grammy-winning artist, area schoolchildren, musicians from the village of Hamilton, and students, faculty and staff from Colgate (See list below).
Tickets are $5, though organizers are hoping for additional donations. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and Partners in Health.
“We have had so many people step up to help us organize this benefit concert,” said Mark Shiner, the Catholic campus minister who has been working closely with David Levy, the university’s Jewish chaplain.
Tickets will be available at the O’Connor Campus Center (the Coop) starting Monday or at the chaplain’s office in the garden level of the Chapel. Some tickets will be available at the door on the day of the concert. Those interested in performing should contact Lorraine Joseph at ljoseph@colgate.edu.
