No. 15/15 Men’s Hockey Rallies From Three-Goal Deficit To Tie Vermont 3-3

— The Colgate men’s hockey team rallied from a 3-0 first period deficit to tie ?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />Vermont 3-3 Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Sophomore Jon Smyth (Markham, Ont.) scored two goals and added an assist and freshman defenseman Mike Campaner (Thunder Bay, Ont.) recorded three assists in the tie.

The Raiders extend their unbeaten streak to seven games and remain in second place in the ECAC.

Vermont (4-18-4, 2-12-1) took a quick 2-0 lead on goals by Scott Mifsud and Chris Myers at 3:32 and 4:12 of the first period.

The Catamounts extended their lead to 3-0 at 17:06 on an unassisted goal by Jeff Miles.

Colgate (15-8-4, 10-4-1 ECAC) cut the lead 3-1 at 19:36 on a power play goal from Smyth. It was Smyth’s team-leading 17th goal of the season.

 

Smyth scored his second of the game and 18th of the season at 15:34 of the second period to cut the Vermont lead to 3-2.

Junior Darryl McKinnon (Port Elgin, Ont.) scored the game-tying goal at 17:04 of the third period.

 

Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.) stopped 15 shots, 12 of which came in the first period. Vermont goaltender Travis Russell finished the game with 34 saves.
