No. 15/15 Men’s Hockey Battles To Second Straight 3-3 Tie At Dartmouth

?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />HANOVER, N.H.— The 15th-ranked Colgate University men’s ice hockey team battled to its second straight 3-3 tie against Dartmouth Saturday night at Thompson Arena.

With the tie, Colgate extends its unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2) which is the second longest unbeaten streak in school history.

Colgate (15-8-5, 10-4-2 ECAC) took a 1-0 lead at 14:44 of the first period with a power play goal from junior Dave Thomas (East Petersburg, Pa.). Freshman Mike Campaner (Thunder Bay, Ont.) fed the puck to Thomas from the point and Thomas went high shelf on Dartmouth goaltender Dan Yacey.

Dartmouth (9-7-7, 7-4-5) tied the game at one at 19:28 with a power play goal of its own by Hugh Jessiman. Jessiman’s one-timed a shot that went through the legs of Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.).

Thomas scored his second of the game 51 seconds into the second period as his shot went off a Dartmouth defender’s skate to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead.

 

Colgate increased its lead to 3-1 at 2:54 with a goal from sophomore Kyle Wilson (London, Ont.). Sophomore J.R. Bria (Monroe, Conn.) assisted on the goal. Dartmouth then pulled Yacey in favor of freshman Sean Samuel.

 

Dartmouth then scored two straight goals to tie the game at three at 11:30 and 17:39. Lee Stempniak notched the first one and Nathan Szymanski tallied the second one.

 
The two teams battled through scoreless third and overtime periods as Silverthorn stopped 24 shots and Samuel made nine saves during that time.

Silverthorn finished the night with 47 saves.
