As students are concluding their second full week of school, there are tons of events happening around campus. It’s going to be a busy week at Colgate with Homecoming Weekend around the corner, so here are some of the events you don’t want to miss.
On Wednesday, September 17, Jeff Rosenheim will give a lecture titled “Diane Arbus and American Photography” in Golden Auditorium from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Rosenheim is the current curator in charge of the Department of Photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he has worked for 26 years.
Rosenheim, who organized an exhibition titled “Diane Arbus Revelations” in 2005, will provide context for Arbus’s work within the larger scope of American photography.
The lecture is sponsored by the Picker Art Gallery, and is being held in conjunction with its reopening on Thursday, September 18. The gallery will launch two exhibitions, one featuring Arbus and the other featuring Richard Serra. A reception will follow the reopening from 6:45-8:00 p.m. in Dana Arts Center so make sure to stop by and check out the new exhibitions.
Homecoming weekend kicks off with a BBQ sponsored by the Presidents’ Club at 5:45 p.m. Thursday on the Academic Quad. All students are invited to attend, and are encouraged to then head over to the keynote lecture by Mark Devine ‘85 in Memorial Chapel.
Devine is a former elite Navy SEAL officer, and now the founder, president, and CEO of US Tactical and SEALFIT. The lecture starts at 7 p.m.
On Friday, head to Whitnall Field for the Homecoming Pep Rally and more delicious BBQ catered by Holy Smoke BBQ from 7-9 p.m.
The Homecoming tailgate starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Van Doren Field, so alumni and students can catch up before the field hockey and football games.
The field hockey team will start the day off against Holy Cross on Tyler Field at 11 a.m., in their first Patriot League game of the season. Then football will take on the Cornell Big Red at 1 p.m. at Andy Kerr Stadium.
