Hamilton – On Monday, February 1, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, as part of a coast-to-coast tour under the direction of Christoph Poppen, will appear on the Colgate University stage, opening the Spring Concert Series. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Colgate Memorial Chapel.
In a review of an October 1997 concert at the University of Chicago, the Chicago Tribune raved, ‘…Christoph Poppen’s taut yet flexible baton kept the performances in dexterous balance, with incisive, sharply focused playing that remained warmly polished and refined.’ This chamber orchestra, which began forty years ago in Germany, has been under the baton of Mr. Poppen since 1995. The works to be performed by the 19-piece ensemble on February 1 are Dvorak’s Serenade for Strings, Bartok’s Divertimento for Strings, and Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night, all early twentieth-century pieces.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information or a complete Spring Concert Calendar, call the Colgate Concertline at 315-228-7642.
