Hello, my name is Natalie Sportelli, and I’m a member of the incoming Class of 2015. I will be writing about my experiences at Colgate, and I hope to be informative, entertaining, and enlightening with my observations of campus life.
On Thursday, I was milling through the masses of parents, students, and volunteers who were here for move-in day. Despite the rainy and humid day, the cadre of volunteer greeters, movers, RAs, and hot dog cookers all helped make the incoming first-years forget about the inclement weather.
I was able to speak with some individuals about moving in and the upcoming semester. One alumnus, Lee Hawley ’80, said it felt like a “homecoming” to be moving his daughter into her dorm. Hawley’s advice to his daughter and other first-years included keeping a positive attitude, finding the upside of a situation, and gaining and staying connected with good friends.
I was not directly involved in the craziness that is move-in day, however.
I arrived at Colgate on Monday for the WRCU pre-orientation program. I learned a great deal about the inner workings of college radio during my days working at the station.
The pre-Orientation was awesome, and I highly recommend it to students who are interested in getting involved with the production of music, talk, and sports shows.
Getting to move in early was only one of the many benefits of attending a pre-Orientation program. I encourage all to tune in to WRCU 90.1FM to get a taste of what’s going on at Colgate, as well as to listen to some great music.
Overall, my first week at Colgate has been a whirlwind, and I have loved every minute of it. I’ll let you know what my second week is like next Friday!
