Hamilton, NY -Head Coach Jim Nagle has announced the signing of eight players to the Colgate men’s lacrosse team’s Class of 2008. Joining the Raiders are Tyler Philpot (Gales Ferry, Conn./Ledyard High School), E.J. Atamian (Worcester, Mass./St. John’s Prep), Matt Lalli (Princeton, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North HS), Christopher Mulholand (Jenkinstown, Penn./La Salle Prep), Trevor Marticke (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy), Corey Hinton (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), Jason Kapnick (Randolph N.J./Randolph HS), and Scott Gourlay (Darien, Conn./Hotchkiss School).
‘We are very excited about this year’s recruiting class,’ said Nagle. ‘ It is a very athletic group with tremendous potential for growth.’ Coach Nagle expects to add one more recruit to this year’s class.
Philpot is a 6-3 defender from Ledyard High School where he was a two-sport athlete. ‘Tyler has exceptional quickness for a big kid,’ said Nagle. Philpot garnered all-league honors in lacrosse as well as all-league football honors at defensive end. He was also a Fabulous Forty All-Star at Top Star lacrosse camp.
Atamian is a 6-2 athlete who can play at both midfield and defense. Atamian was a two-sport athlete in both football and lacrosse at St. Johns Prep in Worcester, Mass. ‘E.J. possesses unlimited potential at the collegiate level.’ said Nagle. ‘His defensive intensity is rare.’
Lalli is a 6-3 midfielder and Top 205 all-star. ‘Matt has great skill and ability in the offensive third of the field,’ said Nagle. ‘He is a very offensive minded middie with great skills.’
Joining Lalli at midfield is Mulholand, a 5-11 Top 205 all-star from La Salle Prep. Mulholand is a two-sport athlete who garnered honorable mention all-league honors at free safety in football and was an all-area lacrosse player. ‘Chris is one of the toughest competitors we have recruited,’ said Nagle. ‘He plays hard in every area of the game.’
Marticke is a 6-4 midfielder from the Western Reserve Academy. He was a two-sport athlete in both soccer and lacrosse and was honored as a Peak 200 all-star. ‘Trevor is another big athlete with lots of promise.’ said Nagle. ‘ He is a hard working kid who will get better every day.’
Hinton is a 6-3 middie from Niskayuna High School. He was a member of the Under-19 Iroquois National team and the Adirondack Empire State team. ‘Corey will be one of the best athletes on a lacrosse field in New York State this season.’ said Nagle. ‘He is a tremendous student for whom the possibilities of success are limitless.’
Kapnick is a talented 5-10 midfielder at Randolph High School who won an estimated 75 percent of his face-offs as a junior. ‘Jason possesses tremendous speed and ability on the face-off,’ said Nagle. ‘He is an extremely hard working athlete.’
Gourlay is a 6-1 athlete that can play both midfield and attack. He is a three- sport athlete in football, hockey, and lacrosse. He won 64 percent of his face-offs and scored 37 points in his junior season. He was named a Peak 200 all-star and a Super Junior all-star. ‘Scott is a shifty offensive player who can create and find the open guy,’ said Nagle.
