HAMILTON, N.Y.The Colgate men’s ice hockey team hosts 12-ranked Ferris State Friday and Saturday night in the Raiders home opener. Game times are set for 7 p.m. at Starr Rink.
Colgate (0-0-1) is coming off a 3-3 tie with Northeastern Saturday night at Matthews Arena in Boston. Sophomore Kyle Wilson (London, Ont.) scored the game-tying goal at 5:09 of the third period. Also scoring for the Raiders were juniors Darryl McKinnon (Port Elgin, Ont.) and Adam Mitchell (Port Elgin, Ont.). Senior Kyle Doyle (Sarnia, Ont.) recorded two assists. Senior goaltender David Cann (Brampton, Ont.) finished with 29 saves and was named the ECAC Goaltender of the Week following his performance.
The Raiders and Ferris State (1-1-0) are meeting for just the fifth time in school history with the Bulldogs leading the series 3-1. Colgate’s last win at home was also its first-ever meeting with Ferris State, a 4-1 win on December 10, 1999. The last time these two teams met in Big Rapids, Mich., the Bulldogs won 3-1.
Ferris State, the defending CCHA Champion, is coming off a home and home series with Western Michigan where the Bulldogs dropped the first game 4-2 before coming back the second night with a 5-2 win at home.
Sophomore right wing Greg Rallo (Gurnee, Ill.) has posted back-to-back multiple point games this season with two points (a goal and an assist) in the season opener and two assists on Saturday.
Junior All-America goaltender Mike Brown (Calgary, Alberta) needs one victory to become the school’s all-time winningest goaltender as he won 30 games in net last season.
