HAMILTON, N.Y. Colgate University’s men’s ice hockey team will hold its annual Maroon and White scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Starr Rink.
The Raiders return 19 letterwinners from last year’s squad including senior captain Rob Brown (Brockville, Ont.), junior defenseman Joey Mormina (Montreal, Quebec), senior forward Kyle Doyle (Sarnia, Ont.) and junior assistant captain Adam Mitchell (Port Elgin, Ont.).
Doyle and Mitchell tied for second on the team in scoring last season with 27 points. Mitchell was second in goal scoring with 14 goals while Doyle led the team in assists with 19 helpers.
Brown and Mormina finished first and second among defensemen in scoring last season. Brown accumulated 16 points and Mormina contributed 13 of his own.
Colgate also returns both of its goaltenders in senior David Cann (Brampton, Ont.) and junior Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.). Both goaltenders finished the season with a 2.90 goals against average and had similar save percentage’s as well. Cann compiled a .901 save percentage while Silverthorn had a .900 save percentage.
The Raiders open their season on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Northeastern before returning home the following weekend for two games against Ferris State on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18.
