Maggie Dunne ’13, already recognized on campus for her entrepreneurial and philanthropic successes, has now been recognized on a national scale after being named one of Glamour‘s Top 10 College Women for 2012 and receiving the $20,000 grand prize presented by the magazine.
The magazine highlights 10 dynamic young women who show campus leadership, scholastic achievement, community involvement, and unique, inspiring goals. The 10 winners are profiled in an editorial feature in the May 2012 issue of Glamour and they were honored Tuesday night at the New Museum in New York City.

Dunne received the recognition and the grand prize for establishing the Lakota Pine Ridge Children’s Enrichment Project. She has collected and delivered more than $100,000 worth of coats, boots, and school supplies to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She even cold-emailed Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus and scored an internship studying the root causes of poverty with his organization in Bangladesh. Then she took what she learned and applied it to Pine Ridge.
In addition to the nonprofit that she founded, Dunne, from Scarsdale, N.Y., has a hand in numerous other organizations, at Colgate and abroad. She’s a member of the Disaster Response Team (DiRT), Students for Students, the Thought Into Action Institute, and the Native American Students Association.
Thanks to her staunch commitment to service and leadership, Dunne was awarded the Newman Civic Fellow Award from Campus Compact last year.
