Hamilton, NY — – Karen Novak will give a public reading from her novel Five Mile House on Thursday, October 18 as part of the 2001 Living Writers series at Colgate University. The reading, which begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Ho Lecture Room, 105 Lawrence Hall, is free and open to the public. Novak, a Mason, Ohio resident who has lived in Norwich, NY, made her writing debut in 2000 with Five Mile House. Written from the points of view of two women, one dead and one living, the novel delves into themes of intrigue and murder, suicide, adultery, family and the unstoppable strength of two mothers protecting their children.
The rest of the lineup in this semester’s Living Writers series includes Robert Olen Butler on October 25, Justin Cronin on November 1, Elizabeth Strout on November 8, Howard Norman on November 15, John McGahern on November 29, and a publishing forum on December 6.
