Hamilton, NY — – Despite another stout effort from sophomore goaltender Rebecca Lahar, the Colgate women’s hockey team fell to Mercyhurst, 7-0.
The Lady Lakers scored four first period goals on 31 shots. Britney Millar started the scoring at 9:42 with her third goal of the season. Sam Shirley and Sara McDonald were credited with the assists. McDonald scored the second goal at 12:39 from Shirley and Chrissy Yule. It was McDonald’s 10th of the season.
Mercyhurst made it 3-0 at 14:24 with a power play goal from Shirley, her seventh of the year. Millar and Yule assisted on the goal. The Lady Lakers netter their fourth goal of the period at 17:14 when Lyndsay Barch tallied her fifth of the year from Yule and Danielle Lansing.
Mercyhurst outshout Colgate 31-1 in the period as Rebecca Lahar stopped 27 shots between the pipes for the Raiders.
The second period saw much of the same as the first. Merychurst outshot Colgate 30-3, but only tallied two scores thanks to another great effort from Rebecca Lahar.
Samantha Shirley scored her second of the game and eighth of the season at 12:22 from Lansing and Jennifer Jeffrey. The Lady Lakers added a power play goal at 13:42 from Randi Pilger, her fifth of the season. Aimee Collins was credited with the assist to give Mercyhurst a 6-0 lead after two periods.
Mercyhurst added one more in the third period at 7:10, when Lyndsay Barch found the net for the second time. Pilger and Jeffrey were credited with the assists.
Colgate was outshot 79-15 in the contest. Mercyhurst went 4-6 on the power play while Colgate was 0-5.
Rebecca Lahar played another outstanding game in net turning aside 72 of the 79 shots faced.
Colgate now 9-11 hosts Findlay on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Starr Rink.
