Boston magazine’s ‘Best of Boston’ singer/songwriter Kevin Connolly will give a concert at the Barge Canal Coffee Company on Lebanon Street on Saturday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m.
Connolly’s music ‘cuts a fairly wide swath through pop music culture, touching on everything from blues to folk to country to rock ‘ and often a combination of all four,’ wrote the NY Times News service.
Having sold more than 10,000 independently distributed albums, the Boston-based performer and his band were house favorites in the early ’90s at the local Boston pub Plough and Stars, the breeding ground for such artists as Morphine, G. Love and Special Sauce, and Jennifer Trynin. His second album, My, My, My was based on the year he spent living in Rome, Italy, and his bluesy folk record was followed with Little Town, which mostly revolves around his years growing up in Marshfield, Mass.
Connolly has shared bills with the likes of Joan Osborne, Shawn Colvin, the Indigo Girls, and other national acts, and tours nationally. Album Network called him ‘A songwriter’s songwriter, an uncompromising performer and an original personality.’ Monterey County Herald said his performance showed, ‘roots, rock, muscle, and assured songwriting ‘ humorous but not self consciously so, deeply emotional without being maudlin.’
Tickets are $6.00 for the general public and $3.00 for Colgate students and are available at Colgate’s student activities office in the Student Union or at the Barge Canal Coffee Company.
