I wanted something different to do on Friday night.
I called a few friends and we headed over to the theater to see the production of Midsummer, a nuanced adaptation of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, written and directed by a Colgate professor. The theater was buzzing with professors, administrators, students, and Hamilton residents. There were no empty seats.
For many of the actors, this was their first Colgate production. Most had a couple other productions from high school or summer theater under their belt, or perhaps a theater class at Colgate. But it looked and felt professional. Who thought three dollars could buy such incredible entertainment.
I walked out of there wishing I had become involved in theater at Colgate. But you have to make choices: there isn’t time to do everything. But there is time, at least, to see or try everything once.
