Slater Brothers Entertainment will bring Hollywood to the village of Hamilton for the fourth annual Hamilton International Film Festival Aug. 2-5.
Grant Slater ’91 and his brothers Wade and Todd, whose father, Terry Slater, was the head hockey coach at Colgate for 15 years, started the festival four years ago.
“Part of what we hope to accomplish with our film festival is to promote the arts and culture of the area we grew up in,” said Todd Slater. “The size of Hamilton and how we present the four-day event really forces film makers to interact with each other and the community in general,” added Grant Slater.
The Hamilton Theater and the Palace Theater will host screenings of award-winning movies from around the world including the Oscar-winning film Undefeated, My Uncle Rafael, Parkdale, and Skateistan. The festival will conclude for another year on Sunday, Aug. 5 with a screening of Confidence Game, presented by Colgate alumni Paul (’94) and Nick Verbitsky (’91). In many instances, the filmakers will be in attendance to talk about their films.
Tickets are $5 per movie or $25 for an all-festival pass. All tickets can be purchased at the Hamilton Theater or by phone at 315-824-8210.
Some of the proceeds from the festival will be dedicated to local organizations and charities. SBE will donate 100 percent of proceeds from the screening of Undefeated to Hamilton Central School.
Everyone is invited to the Colgate Bookstore on Friday, Aug. 3, at 6:30 p.m. for the official opening of the event. For a complete listing of all times and locations, please see this festival poster (PDF).
