Colgate football players hope their strength and endurance pay off for charities that help fight rare diseases.
At the “Lift for Life” fundraiser Friday, about 35 players will compete against each other in lifting and skills competitions.

The charity event, which begins at 6 p.m. in Sanford Fieldhouse, was featured in the Observer-Dispatch (Utica) and on Syracuse’s 93Q morning show.
“With the help of the Colgate community, this is a fun way to rally around those who are battling rare diseases,” said linebacker Greg Hadley ’10.
Admission to the fundraiser is $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12 with all proceeds going to charities.
“Lift for Life” is sponsored by Uplifting Athletes, a nonprofit organization founded by former Penn State player Scott Shirley after his father died of kidney cancer.
University chapters, including Colgate’s, are operated by student-athletes who are dedicated to raising awareness about rare diseases.
Those in attendance will have chances to win season tickets, parking passes, free rounds of golf at Seven Oaks Golf Course, and other prizes.
Meantime, Charlie Liebschutz ’06 is making headlines across the country for his role with Republican John McCain’s presidential campaign.
Liebschutz was recently appointed chairman of McCain’s Iowa campaign.
Liebschutz told the Democrat and Chronicle (Rochester) that his duties include managing day-to-day operations and continuing voter outreach efforts.
He previously worked as McCain’s South Carolina field director before the state’s January primary, which McCain won.
