Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook and author of the forthcoming book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, will kick off Colgate’s second Entrepreneur Weekend on Friday, April 5, with at talk at 5 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.
Sandberg is an ideal personality to headline the weekend, which is expected to draw Colgate’s aspiring student entrepreneurs, as well as many successful parents and alumni who serve as their mentors. Ranked on Fortune magazine’s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business and as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, Sandberg has wisdom and experience that is relevant to anyone in the workplace, whether female or male— employee or entrepreneur.
While on campus, Sandberg also will meet with student members of Colgate Women in Business and the Entrepreneur Club, as well as participants in Thought into Action (TIA), Colgate’s year-long incubator program that connects aspiring student entrepreneurs with alumni who volunteer their expertise in fields ranging from finding angel investors, to business law or taking a company public.
Sandberg’s book, published by Alfred A. Knopf and scheduled to go on sale March 11, contains widely applicable advice on how to get ahead in business; however, it is clearly geared toward helping women attain more C-level jobs. She draws on insights gained as chief of staff for the U.S. Treasury Department during the Clinton administration, as a vice president at Google, and as the COO of Facebook.
On Saturday morning, Entrepreneur Weekend will continue with a display of TIA projects. In the afternoon, Colgate will host its first “Little Talks, Big Ideas” event, featuring brief, dynamic, presentations on issues related to entrepreneurship. Speakers will be announced soon.
