The Belmont Stakes might be history, but Colgate is preparing for a photo finish of its own this month.
Every weekday between Colgate Day, June 13, and the end of Fiscal Year 2014 on June 30, the university will post photos, videos, and stories that illustrate the impact of philanthropy on undergraduates.
The university is asking alumni, parents, and friends to visit colgate.edu/photofinish, feel the inspiration, and make a gift to any campus initiative before the fiscal year officially comes to a close.
“Because Colgate relies on annual gifts of all sizes to plan for the 2014–2015 academic year,” said Class of 2005 gift committee volunteer Joanna Allegretti, “there has never been a better time for us to have an immediate effect on student programming.”
After a year of successes, driven by funds raised in 2013, Photo Finish is designed as an Internet-based show-and-tell exhibit. “Here on campus, we see the results of extraordinary generosity every day,” said President Jeffrey Herbst. “We wanted to share that view with the people who make it all happen.”
Friday is the perfect moment to kick off a last-minute dash to June 30: it is the only Colgate Day in 2014. In keeping with custom, Colgate is encouraging alumni, parents, and friends worldwide to show their spirit by wearing maroon, attending an event, and uploading photos to Facebook.
With such an important day landing in an equally important month, making a gift of any size is an ideal way to demonstrate pride and to thank faculty, friends, and administrators for a remarkable Colgate experience.
“If you received financial aid, worked on a research project with a faculty member, traveled abroad, joined a club, or played a sport at any level, making a gift is a great way to show your appreciation,” said advancement vice president Murray Decock ’80. “Today’s students are following in your footsteps — they benefit and they see that philanthropy is a university tradition.”
