Colgate University’s 193rd commencement featuring keynote speaker Gloria Borger ’74 P’10 will be held Sunday in Sanford Field House. The 10:30 a.m. commencement exercise will be streamed live on the colgate.edu homepage, and will be available on all computers and mobile devices.
Borger is the chief political analyst for CNN and a member of the first coeducational class to graduate from Colgate.
She appears daily on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Lead with Jake Tapper, and across CNN’s prime-time programs.
The baccalaureate speaker on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. is Father George Coyne SJ, McDevitt Chair of Religious Philosophy at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. A renowned Jesuit priest, astronomer, and director emeritus of the Vatican Observatory, Father Coyne bridges the worlds of faith and science. He holds a BA in mathematics and licentiate in philosophy, both from Fordham University, and a PhD in astronomy from Georgetown University.
Both Borger and Coyne will receive honorary degrees during commencement. The other honorary degree recipients will be:
- George Avakian, music historian and innovator in the jazz recording industry
- Mark Golden, CEO of Golden Artist Colors in New Berlin, N.Y.
- Lorie Slutsky ’75, president of the New York Community Trust
