Colgate senior Alison Smith to present piano recital on May 2

Hamilton, NY — Colgate University student Alison K. Smith of Canton, N.Y. will present her senior piano recital on Thursday, May 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Memorial Chapel. Smith will perform works of Bach, Beethoven, Liszt and Gottschalk. Admission is free and open to the public.

Smith began her piano instruction in Canton under the guidance of Ella Morter at the age of eight. She later moved on to study piano under Avril Potter of Potsdam, where she remained for most of her high school career. As a student of Canton Central School, Smith participated in music as a vocal student and band member. Upon entering high school, she found use for her piano talent as a jazz pianist for the stage band and an accompanist for the high school chorus. She participated in New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) competitions as a soloist as well as an accompanist up until her graduation in 1998.

At Colgate, Smith is majoring in psychology and studies piano under the instruction of Vivien Harvey Slater. She has participated as a pianist with the Colgate Chamber Players.
