College graduates can measure success in many ways, some material and some not so tangible. One measure that has been in the news this week focused on post-graduate salary, and Colgate found itself in very good company.
Colgate was ranked eighth among undergraduate institutions in terms of earning potential, higher than schools such as Duke (9), Notre Dame (13), and Penn (15).
That ranking, cited in media outlets such as CNBC.com and Yahoo! Finance, was determined through data generated by PayScale.com, an online site that says it has the largest salary database in the world.
Its 2010-11 College Salary Report suggests that companies are willing to pay a premium for students hailing from the nation’s top universities, like Colgate.
As parents and prospective students consider the costs of college, media reports said, the potential earning power of graduates is one of many factors to consider.
Among liberal arts schools, Colgate was ranked second in terms of salary potential, behind only Harvey Mudd College.
Also in the news this past week was a decision by the Patriot League, of which Colgate is a member, to delay a vote on whether to allow scholarships for football programs.
“Following extensive discussions at their meetings this week, the Patriot League Council of Presidents elected to table a decision to adjust the current need-limited model of financial aid for two years pending additional deliberations related to the league’s strategic direction,” the council said in a statement.
