ROME, N.Y.The Colgate University golf team won their first tournament of the season Monday at the American University Invitational with a score of 593 at Rome Country Club.
The Raiders edged out host American for top honors by one stroke as the Eagles finished with a team score of 594. Mount St. Mary’s was third with a team score of 612 and the College of the Holy Cross placed fourth with a 638. La Salle University rounded out the field with a score of 657.
Individually, Ben Hartman of American took medalist honors with a combined score of 141 for three under par. Colgate senior Jesse Smith (Barrington, N.H.) placed second with a combined score of 142. He fired a three under par 69 in the first round and a one over par 73 in the second round. Junior Sean Cusick (Westwood, Mass.) finished fifth with a combined score of 147 with rounds of 76 and 71.
Senior Andrew Calcutt (Traverse City, Mich.) fired a 149 with a round of 72 and 77. Sophomore Tyler Eldredge (Yarmouthport, Mass.) had a 155 and junior Ben Selberg (Englewood, Colo.) rounded out the team with a 165.
The Raiders are back in action on Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Bucknell Invitational.
