Hamilton, NY — Colgate University’s Reunion 2001 will kick off Thursday, May 31, when more than 2,000 alumni begin to arrive on campus for a weekend of activities that include awards ceremonies, concerts, banquets, lectures, campus tours, a parade, and a barbecue. The traditional Tent City on Whitnall Field will be the hub of reunion festivities for the classes of 1931, 1936, 1941, 1946, 1951, 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, and 1996, plus the Perennials (alumni whose classes are not scheduled for quinquennial reunions).
Throughout the weekend, Colgate faculty, staff, and alumni will lead more than 50 sessions for Reunion College. These ‘courses’ cover a variety of topics, and the public is invited to attend. For more information on the Reunion College schedule, call 315-228-7417.
Following the Friday evening awards ceremony, the chapel bell will toll 13 times and the Fraser Highlanders will lead alumni down the hill to the tents in the annual Torchlight Ceremony.
Saturday’s all-class parade is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Led by the Fraser Highlanders, the parade will proceed up Broad Street from Oak Drive to Reid Athletic Center. President Karelis and college administrators will present a ‘State of the College’ session on Saturday afternoon.
In conjunction with the reunion, Colgate’s Center for Ethics and World Societies, whose theme this year is ‘Corruption: Wealth, Power and Democracy,’ will sponsor a year-end set of events under the title of ‘Reinventing Politics: Reform in the 21st Century.’ The public is welcome to attend these sessions as well.
On Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., John Wahl ’91 will lead an ecumenical service in Memorial Chapel.
