The past week was filled with a lot of snow, and fun. As you linger on the Valentine’s Day celebration of love, come to the ALANA lounge at 6:45 p.m. on Friday for Release Night, a chance to discuss social, political, and economic concerns swirling in your head.
Hosted by Black Student Union, Release Night is a welcoming and encouraging platform for all students to gain support and recognition through others about the struggles and achievements they may be enduring, without the fear of being judged.
On Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Persson Hall Auditorium, Professor Anne Pitcher, formerly of Colgate and now teaching at the University of Michigan, will give a Africana & Latin American Studies lecture titled: My Dream, My House: the Rise of the Urban Middle Class and Home Ownership in Angola.
On Friday, plunge yourself into some snow adventures at 3 p.m. at Base Camp. During Backyard Adventure: Learn to Classic XC Ski Afternoon, you can learn the art of kicking and gliding on cross-country skis. During the session Wilderness Photography, you can get the basics of digital and film photography for shooting in the outdoors.
If you are looking to chill-out, reserve your ticket now for the Mardi Gras Dinner and Dance that will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Hall of Presidents. Food will be catered by Michael’s restaurant and a jazz band will be playing music through dinner and dance. Tickets will be available in the Chapel basement or at the Coop for a suggested donation of $5.
On Friday night at 7, Brothers will bring the hereandnow theater company to present their famous show “But All of my friends are…Black, Asian, Latino/a, Gay, Multi-Racial” at Brehmer Auditorium.
“But All of my friends are…Black, Asian, Latino/a, Gay, Multi-Racial” is a collection of 10 plays performed in 90 minutes. It examines the differences between us, as people of color, as well as our commonalities. Each play deals with a different aspect of being a minority in the U.S. through comedy, drama and many true to life stories. The show offers one of the most innovative means of examining diversity and tolerance from this critically acclaimed theatre of color.
