UTICA, NY– The Colgate women’s hockey team defeated Utica Friday afternoont, 5-1 to move two games over .500 at 9-7.

Colgate scored goal number one in the first period at 12:32 when Amanda Barre netted a power play goal, her sixth goal of the season from freshman Carly McNaughton and sophomore Maura Kehoe.

The Raiders went up 2-0 at 18:35 of the second period on freshman Becky Irvine’s sixth goal of the season. Barre registered the assist on the power play goal.

Senior captain Toby Mandel scored her first goal of the season at 3:32 of the third period to increase Colgate’s lead to 3-0. Kristin Cirbus and Kristy MacDonald were credited with the assists.

MacDonald got on the board with her third goal of the season at 14:04, increasing the Raiders’ advantage to 4-0. McNaughton and Cirbus were credited with the assists.

Cirbus’ assist gave her ten for the season and 27 for her career, placing her ninth on the all-time assist list at Colgate.

Utica would cut into the lead at 15:12 on a goal from Melissa Lomato. Katie Juliano recorded the assist for the Pioneers.

Colgate finished off the scoring at 19:35 as McNaughton scored her third of the season from Cheryl Setchell and Abbie Webb, setting the final at 5-1.

Freshman netminder Melanie Barclay made her first collegiate start and earned her first win. She made ten saves on eleven shot attempts.

Colgate outshot Utica 48-11 and went 2-5 on the power play.

The Raiders are next in action Monday night at 7 p.m. at Maine.
