As the Olympic flame continues its journey to London for the 2012 Summer Olympics, it will be passed to Tanya Lubicz-Nawrocka ’08, who was named to the torch relay team in England because of her efforts to inspire young people to become better global citizens.

Lubicz-Nawrocka recently completed a master of philosophy degree in Modern Society and Global Transformations at Cambridge University. Her dissertation focused on ways to promote global citizenship and cosmopolitanism, an interest she says was sparked at Colgate.
“My excellent liberal arts education at Colgate and wide array of academic and extracurricular opportunities with which Colgate provided me have most certainly supported my journey to this point thus far! ” Lubicz-Nawrocka said in an email.
“My fantastic study-abroad experiences with the Dijon Study Group, extended study program in Japan, and a study-abroad experience in Christchurch, New Zealand, were key foundational experiences for me,” she added.
She studied sociology and French while at Colgate and was nominated to Phi Beta Kappa for her academic work and leadership. She served as co-president of the French Club for several years.
Lubicz-Nawrocka, 26, now lives in London and works for Civitas, an independent educational nonprofit and think-tank. She will carry the torch through Cambridge at approximately 1:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday. To take part in her journey as she carries the flame, tune in and watch it live.
