Students in Colgate Spanish Courses Visit Colonial Crossings Exhibit at Cornell

Professors Ramírez Velázquez, Llorente, and Sandoval León organized a Beyond Colgate trip, during which students from their classes visited the Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University to explore the temporary exhibition Colonial Crossings, a collaborative curation project led by students and professors from Cornell.

During the visit, Colgate students participated in a guided tour that provided insights into colonial Latin American art. The tour explored various colonial regions in Latin America. It highlighted key themes such as casta paintings, religious iconography, and furniture showcasing refined artwork from Europe, Latin America, and Asia in the 18th century.

After the trip, students from Spanish 202 engaged in group-performance activities — based on the exhibition — that contributed to their final grade.
