The Geography Department ended the formal academic year with the 2022 Awards Convocation.
There was no better candidate for the Peter Gould Award in Geography (presented to the senior major who has enriched the community through leadership, service, and achievement) than Rob Israel ’22, who has brought the department together many times through his efforts.
The Shannon McCune Prize in Geography (presented to the senior major who has demonstrated outstanding academic merit and promise) was given to Anna Duerr ’22, who also was awarded with high honors for her senior thesis on “Food Access and Inequity in Utica, N.Y.: A Critique of the Food Desert Concept.”
The Kevin Williams ’10 Endowed Memorial Fellowship Award was established in memory of Kevin Williams ’10 to provide stipend support for one or more geography majors to travel while studying abroad. This years recipients were Emily Balog ’24 and Joseph Berberich ’24. Both Emily and Joseph intend to use the stipend during their fall 2022 semester abroad in Cape Town, South Africa.
