Two long-time faculty members will retire from the Department of Economics this year.
Prof. Don Waldman has been teaching for 40 years — since 1981. He has taught Intro to Econ, Government Control of Business, Industrial Organization, Honors, Intermediate Microeconomics, and Applied Economic Theory. He was also department chair twice, social science division director, and the director of five London Economics Study Groups. Waldman was also known for surprising his classes by dressing up as Winnie the Pooh on Halloween.
Prof. Tom Michl has been teaching for 38 years at Colgate. Michl has taught Macroeconomics, the Seminar in Applied Macroeconomics, Money, Growth and Distribution, Labor Economics, Seminar in Labor Economics, Economic Development, Monetary Economics, and Marxian Political Economy. Michl has also been a director of the London Economics Study Group three times and directed the Colgate Fed Challenge team.
The department wishes them both a very happy and relaxing retirement.
