The University is moving toward a tiered Google storage model beginning July 1, 2024.

Back to ITS Updates

Information Technology Services (ITS) is committed to supporting the academic, research, and business needs of the University while balancing the sustainability and the ongoing costs associated with storage. To act as a safeguard against unintentional consumption of large amounts of storage space, the University is moving toward a tiered storage model. Beginning on July 1, 2024, students will be allocated 25 GB of storage, and faculty and staff will be allocated 100 GB by default. Shared drives will be allocated 100 GB.

Should a drive begin to approach its tier limit, the owner should contact ITS for guidance on data retention and storage best practices. You can also reach out to request more storage space.

ITS provides an array of storage options, each with its own features. We are happy to announce our new Storage Finder tool that you can use to assess your storage needs and help determine the best place to store your data. This tool can be used as a guide, and it contains information on whom to contact to get help with your storage needs.

Additional support can be found on our Google Storage FAQ page. For any other questions or concerns, please reach out to the ITS service desk at 315-228-7111, or email itshelp@colgate.edu.
