Infrastructure and Services Team kick off summer maintenance projects

Back to ITS Updates

The ITS Infrastructure and Services team staff members will be performing multiple maintenance operations this summer - some projects have completed while others will be ongoing into the month of August.  As always we work towards having as little disruption in important services as possible.  If there are any concerns please contact us.

Tuesday June 25th 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM, the Infrastructure and Services team will be upgrading our Clearpass system (system that manages authentication for our network). New wireless authentication requests may not work during this time.

Starting June 12th and through July 3rd,  the ITS Infrastructure and Services team will be upgrading the network switches in all buildings across campus between 4:00 AM and 7:00 AM daily, starting Wednesday, June 12, and ending Wednesday, July 3. This will cause an expected network outage that will last between 15 and 30 minutes per building. If you have any work during these windows that requires an internet connection please let us know so we can work with you regarding timing. This upgrade will help ensure our network is secure and up to date. We are performing this maintenance during off-peak hours in order to lessen the impact on our community.  For schedule details please check this spreadsheet, if the work goes smoothly the next buildings will be targeted in order to complete the work sooner.

Starting June 21st through August 2nd, the ITS Infrastructure and Services team will be performing a rolling replacement of wireless access points in various buildings on campus . A tentative detailed schedule is available for your review.  While the work is ongoing wireless coverage will be affected in the area where a wireless access point is being replaced, and should last no more than 15 minutes per wireless access point.

Monday July 1st through Wednesday July 3rd, 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM, the Infrastructure and Services team will be upgrading wireless controllers firmware upgrade, the entire process will take 4 hours. This will require a reboot of all wireless access points on campus. During the maintenance window you will experience a brief interruption in wireless service lasting about 15-20 minutes. Please note that the campus wired network will not be affected.

Wednesday, July 3rd at 6:00 AM the ITS Infrastructure and Services team will be reconfiguring portions of the wireless infrastructure to enable WiFi 6 capabilities. This will improve wireless access speed where it is supported. Wireless connectivity may have been impacted for a few minutes after this work has been completed.
